For the year 2009, John Deere is going all out to introduce Year of the Utility Tractor. John Deere has the 5 Series and 6D Series utility tractors. These do-it- all tractors feature improved transmissions, economy PTO mode, which JD claims will save 19 to 30% on fuel. The 5 Series tractors will be built in Augusta, GA. replacing the 5000 Series tractors. Changes are a one piece tilt hood, and right hand side step for easy entry from either side of the open platform models. Engine horsepower range from 45 to 101 for the 5D and 5E models. The 5D models offer 2wd only. 5E models offer both 2wd and mfwd. The 5M models range from 65hp to 105hp. The 6D models, built in Waterloo,Iowa, are a step up from the 5 Series tractors. Engine horsepower range from 100 to 140 using a 45.L Power Tech E deisel engine with high pressure common rail enjection. Deeres newest transmission is the 9F/9R electrohydraulic PowrReverser. Axle choices are 2wd and mfwd. Cab options include air suspension seats and steering wheel that tilts and telescope. The 6D Series and some 5 Series tractors promise to save fuel while working with implements. Pulling a lever on the console, will engage the economy PTO mode, which lowers rpm to save fuel.
