2010 Iron Memories Book

The 2010 edition of Iron Memories arrived from the printer two short weeks ago. We couldn't help but notice how vivid the colors are this year. From cover to cover this years participants supplied us with some wonderful photos and stories of their tractor.

Yesterday I received a call from one participant, who said that when he gave his sister her copy she read the entire publication before putting it down.

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending The Cruise to the Woods, the largest classic car cruise in the state of Iowa.

For the past 26 years the W.C. Cruisers car club has hosted this event. It is currently held at the Webster County Agricultural Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa the first Sunday in October. This year’s cruise brought in over 1,100 classic cars from Iowa and surrounding states.

Whether you are an antique tractor buff, or just enjoy looking at pictures of antique tractors, you will enjoy the stories in the volume 8 Iron Memories collector book.
This year you will read tractor stories from the common to rare, some tractors, few have ever heard of, like a Willys, Minneapolis Moline YT, Shaffer, OMC and more. There are restoration stories of tractors done by FFA members, novice and experienced restorers. These stories will warm your heart, stir your memories and even give you a chuckle as you share the moments in these stories as told by their owners.

Frederick Allmaras’s was a young child when his father Alfons purchased this new 1943 Farmall H. At the tender age of 6 Frederick learned to drive on this tractor. This was the main tractor for the Allmaras farm giving many years of service doing farm work. Alfons purchased the H at Haas Inc. in New Rockford, North Dakota in 1943. It was a very popular model and 390,000 were manufactured. The H has a four-cylinder gasoline engine with 3 3/8 X 4 ¼ “ bore and stroke.

Antique Tractors needed for another edition of Iron Memories

Another year is almost over and I can hardly wait to see the entries for the next edition of the Iron Memories storybook.

As you may already know every year we gather information from our antique tractor friends and put them together a full color book filled with pictures and 45-50 tractor restoration stories to mail out in the spring.

Antique Tractors, Big Draw at Auctions

Antique tractors and Equipment is a Valuable Commodity...and growing.

Antique tractors and combines are currently in high demand at auctions. An un-restored 1961 International Harvester Farmall 460 brought $2,800 at a September 11 retirement sale in Texas. Earlier in the year another 460 of the same year sold for $1,400. Also at the Texas sale a 1975 John Deere 4240 was sold for $12,600, nearly $1,000 over the average auction price for this model. Once again confirming that good used equipment is a valuable commodity.

Antique Tractors are a good investment

Professional Antique Tractor Restorers Don’t Come Cheap

Professional restorers don’t come cheap. This doesn’t mean they are over paid by any means. Like any other professional knowledge, training, aptitude, skill and tools are a must. None of the above comes cheap.

The professional restorer has invested a great deal of time perfecting his/her skill. When looking for a professional to do your restoration word of mouth is one of the best sources to determine what you can expect. A good restorer will do what you ask, a great restorer will tell you what needs to be done and do it.
