1940 Farmall H
Frederick Allmaras’s was a young child when his father Alfons purchased this new 1943 Farmall H. At the tender age of 6 Frederick learned to drive on this tractor. This was the main tractor for the Allmaras farm giving many years of service doing farm work. Alfons purchased the H at Haas Inc. in New Rockford, North Dakota in 1943. It was a very popular model and 390,000 were manufactured. The H has a four-cylinder gasoline engine with 3 3/8 X 4 ¼ “ bore and stroke.
Needless to say Frederick will be keeping this tractor for a good long time. Since he has owned the H he has gone through the transmission and overhauled the engine. In 2001 he decided it was time to dress it up a bit and take out the nicks and dings and repaint it. Along with sons Jamie and Joey and son-in-law Brian Hopfauf he spent about 300 hours and $800 making this old tractor look like new again.
Like Frederick’s ten other antique tractors, the H no longer does farm work, it will spend out its days relaxing around the farm and taking in a few tractor rides and attending the Central North Dakota Steam Threshers Reunion.
