David Cassidy, 1952 John Deere R

Jerry at Yuma Old Threshers Days,

David Cassidy's 1952 John Deere Model R

This is my dad, Jerry Cassidy's, 1952 model R John Deere tractor. He bought this tractor in September 2005 at an old Iron Sale. Dad was very excited when he got the R. He drove it that weekend in the Parade of Power at the Yuma Old Threshers Days, in Yuma, Colorado.
We talked about putting it in a parade in out home town of Longmont, Colorado. My Dad, Jerry Cassidy, passed away suddenly in February 2006, before getting it fully restored.
Well he was unable to be a part of it but me, David Cassidy, my wife DeAnna and his grand daughters, my girls, Caity and Samantha made it happen. We used it to pull a wagon float in our towns Christmas Parade of Lights in December 2006. We entered it in his memory.
Jerry was a 19 year member of the Longmont Emergency Unit, a local Volunteer Search & Rescue group. He was also very active with the 4-H community and many other local groups. Our float was loaded with kids and adults from the 4-H clubs his grand daughters are in, members of the Longmont Emergency Unit, and a local Boy Scouts Pack, all being volunteers. I drove the tractor and enjoyed every minute of it. My dad was very well known for helping all kids and the community whenever he could. Our float had over 4000 lights on it including the tractor, and was full of kids of all ages.

What a great way to remember your dad by finishing restoring the tractor. Besides the local parades have you taken it on any organized tractor rides?
