When Chris and Debbie Goodell of Bellingham, Washington attended Fan Fest for the Seattle Mariners in January of 2009 Debbie knew exactly what she wanted one of her favorite players to autograph. Chris and Debbie are avid Mariners fans, particularly relief pitcher #48 Roy Corcoran. The couple learned that Roy is a big fan of antique tractors. Surprisingly enough Chris’s mother, Linda Johnson, (also a fan) works on the Iron Memories, a book of antique tractor restoration stories. Chris and Debbie received a copy of the book as a gift and Debbie thought it would be very special if she had Roy's autograph on it. At Fan Fest they got the opportunity to visit with Roy. They discussed his love for antique tractors. Both he and Chris shared similar backgrounds growing up on a farm. The main exception Chris spent his youth in California and Kansas while Roy grew up in the deep south in Slaughter, Louisiana near Baton Rouge. Roy autographed Chris and Debbie’s book and Chris promised to send Roy his own copy. When the excited Chris called his mother that night she said she would be happy to get Roy his own copy and if he restores his own tractor she would be eager to feature his restoration story in the book. Thank you. Too often we stereotype people thinking their hobbies are only profession related when more often than not they are not even close.
Nice story. Just proves antique tractor lovers are everywhere.
